About The Consortium

Since its birth, the Chianti Classico Wine Consortium has been engaged in protecting, overseeing and valorizing the Chianti Classico denomination. From the former consortium for the defense of Chianti wine and its mark of origin of 1924 to today’s Chianti Classico Wine Consortium the association has changed the name and graphic style of its trademark but it has always featured the historic Black Rooster symbol.

Today the consortium is one of the prime references for Italian and EU wine sector institutions. Its internal organization has the facilities needed to fulfill its institutional tasks: from brand protection and services-providing – through its legal department and test laboratory – to brand valorization, through its marketing & communication office, the Chianti Classico Wine Consortium consists of various spheres linked by a common commitment to producers and consumers of Chianti Classico and to its homeland.

For this reason the entire production chain – grom grape growing to wine bottling — is supervised by a traceability system whose data is handled directly by the consortium and entered into a computerized database that can be accessed by the public. In addition, the consortium carefully inspects the packaged product on the market to verify its correspondence to the certified product. Further important work is research and experimentation in the farming and enology fields. Finally, the consortium is engaged in numerous promotional, public relations, communications and marketing projects created through the years to promote, spread and enhance the image of Chianti Classico wine worldwide.
